Fortitude Coffee

The Stockbridge coffee house of Fortitude, an Edinburgh roaster, on Hamilton Place, with seasonal coffees roasted in the city.

Welcome

On Hamilton Place, a short walk from the bridge over the Water of Leith in Stockbridge, Fortitude pours the coffee it roasts itself.

It is one of Edinburgh's own roasters, working in small seasonal lots from farms in Colombia, Kenya, Rwanda, Ecuador and Peru, and roasting them here in the city.

Behind the counter a wall of white tiles lists the coffees on offer and where each one comes from, and the baristas work beneath it at the espresso machine, pouring flat whites and filter coffee. Trailing plants soften the room, and there are pastries and cakes on the counter to go with a cup. Bags of the season's coffees are for sale to take home, along with subscriptions.

The coffee house opens every day until four in the afternoon. Fortitude has a second coffee house on Abbey Mount, near the foot of the Royal Mile.

The Daily for 20 October, from Scotland with love. The broken stone walls of a lochside castle rise from a small tree-covered island, autumn foliage glowing orange against the dark water and forested hillside beyond.
