Aberdeenshire
The Hay Loft at Glendye
Overview
The Hay Loft sits tucked into the pine-clad folds of Glen Dye, once a working barn, now a two-bedroom hideaway with warmth in its bones. The cottage has been carefully reimagined, keeping the memory of its past while turning it into something lived-in and loved. There's a view from the old hay door — now a wide picture window — out across forest, hillside, and the granite tor of Clachnaben.
Inside, the living space is bright and open. A log burner stands at the heart of it, backed by stacks of firewood and shelves of books and vinyl. The kitchen is well-fitted and flows into a dining space made for slow mornings and late evenings. Two double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, offer comfort without clutter — the kind of place where sleep comes easy after a day outside.
It’s what sits beyond the walls that completes the place. A private wood-fired hot tub, just off the terrace, waits under the trees. Paths head out from the door into Glen Dye’s 30,000 acres of forest and moorland. Guests can cook outdoors, gather around the barbecue, or walk to the estate’s BYOB pub for a quiet night by the fire.
What makes the Hay Loft stand apart is the feeling it gives. Not just comfort, but connection — to land, to weather, to a slower way of living. You don’t come here just to sleep; you come to breathe, wander, and feel part of the land beneath your boots. It’s a place that stays with you long after you’ve left.
