Glen Dye is a glen of heather and pine below the granite tor of Clachnaben, and the estate around it, 15,000 acres, has belonged to the Gladstone family since the middle of the nineteenth century.

Among its cabins and cottages is a small shop that works as part country store and part gallery, with a motto of its own: good stuff, made well.

The shelves hold clothing and homewares, jumpers and luggage, books and stationery, vintage finds, prints and art, crockery, and food: honey, staples and the estate's own groceries and produce. An old painted dresser full of enamelware and boxes stands against a bright pink wall.

Guests staying on the estate can use the shop at any hour; everyone else is welcome by appointment, so ring ahead before you set out. The walk up Clachnaben starts close by.
