No 4 Steading Cottage

Add to List

Overview

The barn stood derelict for years. Now it's No 4, a semi-detached stone house done out in modern style but keeping the Victorian bones. There's a big kitchen-dining room and a generous sitting room, two bathrooms, and beds for seven across two kings, a twin and a single. Larger groups often take it alongside No 5 next door, which opens up the Smiddy and a bigger garden between them.

Out the back you get a private yard with a Big Green Egg, which they reckon is about the best barbecue going. Fifty metres down a woodland path sits your own Swedish wood-fired hot tub. Beyond that, the run of the estate: the BYOB Glen Dye Arms with its log fire and record player, the General Stores for local produce and the odd bag of dog food, eggs from the hens, veg from the garden when it's growing. Dogs welcome.

Facilities & Services

Four bedrooms sleep seven, across two king-size beds, a twin and a single, with two bathrooms. There's a fully equipped kitchen, wood-burning stove, washing machine and tumble dryer, Wi-Fi, towels and linen, and unlimited firewood. Outside, a Big Green Egg barbecue in a private yard and a Swedish wood-fired hot tub.

Location

No 4 sits in the cluster of steading cottages at the heart of Glen Dye, a working estate off the Cairn o' Mount road south of Banchory in Aberdeenshire. The Glen Dye Arms, General Stores and Discovery and Adventure Centre are all a short walk. Easy reach of Royal Deeside and the coast.

Good to know

Dogs are welcome. There's EV charging on site, and a record player with a stack of vinyl indoors. The hot tub sits fifty metres away down a woodland path, shared with No 5. For bigger groups, No 4 and No 5 book together to share the Smiddy and garden. EPC rating C.

What's nearby

The estate runs to thousands of acres of Aberdeenshire woodland and hill, with walking and biking routes from the door. There's a woodland electric sauna with cold plunge tanks, the Seed Store restaurant, and Garden Camp for games and rainy days. Banchory is around 15 minutes off; Aberdeen, under an hour.
