In the centre of Banchory, behind a bright teal shopfront, the Birdhouse is a small café with a serious approach to coffee.
It belongs to Long Walk Coffee, a speciality roaster based in the town, who roast their beans in Banchory every Monday.
The coffee is ethically sourced and roasted in small batches, from a house espresso to single origins and a decaf, and the café is the place to taste it at its freshest. It is a bakery too, with bakes and treats made fresh to go with a cup.
Long Walk also sells its coffee online and by subscription, and supplies cafés and businesses across the north east, so a bag of beans makes a good souvenir of Deeside. Banchory's High Street, the River Dee and the walks up Scolty Hill are all close by.
