Welcome

On Banchory's High Street, the Strong Water Co. is an independent wine merchant and spirits shop, founded by the brothers Guy and Mungo Finlayson and run by the family since 2019.

It feels like a traditional shop, where the people behind the counter know every bottle on the shelves.

The range is built around quality and flavour: single malt Scotch whisky, fine and artisan wines, small-batch gin and other spirits, craft beer and cigars, from respected producers across Scotland and far beyond. The brothers are always looking for something new, and the advice is expert and personal.

There is a wine club and a single cask whisky club, and the shop sends bottles all over the world. It opens from Tuesday to Saturday. Its sister shop in Ballater is given over to whisky, with its own tasting room.

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
