Welcome

In the old farm buildings of the Barn, the arts centre on the edge of Banchory, Buchanan Bistro is the café and restaurant, a high, airy room of timber and white walls with art on show.

In the daytime it serves breakfasts, with dairy-free and gluten-free choices, lunches, and coffee with cake, with outdoor seating on fine days. The cooking leans on local suppliers and a careful approach to waste. On Friday and Saturday evenings, and before concerts at the Barn, it opens for dinner, with specially crafted menus, vegan nights and live music.

It also caters for weddings and private events. With the Barn's exhibitions and shows on the doorstep, it makes an easy pairing: lunch and a gallery, or dinner and a gig.

Hidden Scotland, the magazine

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
