Yolk General Store

Add to List

Introduction

Yolk General Store is a modern rural merchant at Milton of Crathes in Aberdeenshire, stocking pantry goods, homewares, scent and seasonal objects, each chosen for usefulness, character and a place in the daily routine. The shop takes its lead from the old traditions of Scottish shopkeeping, where atmosphere, conversation and discovery count for as much as what sits on the shelves. The stock is chosen with care and keeps changing with the seasons, so no two visits read quite the same. A shop to explore, return to, and travel for. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm.

Location

Yolk General Store is in the courtyard at Milton of Crathes, on the A93 between Banchory and Aberdeen, roughly 30 minutes from the city and five from Banchory, with free parking on site. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm. Buses between Aberdeen and Banchory stop nearby on the A93, and the Deeside Way gives a flat, easy walking and cycling route in from Banchory along the river.

What's nearby

Crathes Castle sits directly across the road, its turreted 16th-century tower house and famous yew hedges cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. The courtyard itself holds good company: Maison Castanié, the French-inspired lifestyle store and deli founded by Marc and Claire Castanié, the Milton Art Gallery with its Scottish paintings and ceramics, and TwinPeakes Fly Fishing, which pairs guided days on the Dee with outdoor kit from the likes of Yeti and Ooni. The Royal Deeside Railway runs heritage trains from the platform next door, a farmers market takes over the courtyard on the second Sunday of each month, and the Deeside Way passes the gate. Banchory is five minutes west, Aberdeen half an hour east.
