No 5 Steading Cottage

Add to List

Overview

No. 5 Steading Cottage is one of Glen Dye’s larger offerings—quietly positioned among a row of converted farm buildings that once served the old estate yard. It sleeps seven across four bedrooms, spread over two floors, and is well suited to families or small groups who need a bit more space without stepping into anything too formal. Inside, the design leans practical: simple furnishings, soft tones, and plenty of light. Downstairs has two bedrooms (a king and a twin), a family bathroom, a kitchen-diner, and a living room with a wood-burning stove set in a traditional hearth. Upstairs, another king room, a single, and a second bathroom.

The cottage shares a private courtyard and outdoor space with No. 4 next door—but it has its own access to The Smiddy, a communal stone building repurposed as a games room, with a Big Green Egg barbecue, pizza oven, firepit seating, and wood-fired hot tub. These outdoor areas carry much of the energy of a stay here, especially in the evenings. They’re designed for cooking, gathering, and staying out long after the sun dips.

As with all Glen Dye properties, guests at No. 5 can use the estate sauna, outdoor shower, and the BYOB pub, and they’re free to roam the surrounding woodland and hills. Bikes are available to borrow, and local produce can be picked up at the Glen Dye shop. While there’s no TV, there is Wi-Fi, and the cottage is stocked with books, games, and a record player. It’s the kind of place where there’s enough to do—without it feeling like anything’s been laid on too thick. Just steady comfort, a bit of space, and the right setting to spend time well.
