Lewis Grassic Gibbon Centre
Introduction
The Scottish Renaissance was a resurgence in Caledonian culture throughout the first half of the 20th century. While music and the visual arts played a significant role, the predominant medium of this movement was literature, as championed by authors and poets such as Hugh MacDiarmid, Naomie Mitchison, and Lewis Grassic Gibbon. The latter is celebrated by a volunteer-ran centre in the Mearns countryside – the setting of his venerated novel Sunset Song – and just two miles from his childhood home. The centre contains artefacts of Gibbon’s life and works as donated by those who knew him, and entry is free plus a £3 charge for the exhibition.
