On Bridge Street in Ballater, near the bridge over the Dee, Bridge House Cafe is a small, bright café of wooden tables and pale walls.

It belongs to a family who run several cafés, and they have made it welcoming to everyone, children and dogs included.

The kitchen does breakfasts and brunches, then lunches of sandwiches, toasties, salads and soups, and there is always a counter of home bakes to go with a coffee or a pot of tea. Deli items are for sale to take home.

It opens from Thursday to Monday, and it makes a handy stop before or after a walk up Craigendarroch, along the Dee or out to Glen Muick. The family also let a holiday cottage in the village for a longer stay.
