Lumphanan Golf Club

A nine-hole course by the village of Lumphanan in the hills north of the Dee, first laid out after 1914 on land given by Dr Robert Farquharson, and revived since.

Welcome

In the gentle hills north of the Dee, between Banchory and Aboyne, the village of Lumphanan has a small golf course of its own on its edge, nine holes of rolling parkland with the trees and farmland of Deeside all around.

Golf here goes back a century. A club was formed in 1914, and the next year Dr Robert Farquharson, a former member of parliament for West Aberdeenshire, gave a piece of land outside the village for a course. J Marr of Aberdeen laid out nine holes, described at the time as good, sporting and tricky, and by 1924 the club had eighty members. Numbers fell away after the war, and by the 1960s the course had gone back to grass.

The club has since been revived, and visitors are welcome.
