Over the weekend of the 19th to the 21st of September 2025, the Scottish Sculpture Workshop opens its woodland yard to an immersive three-day introductory course in stone carving. Teaching starts each day around 10 am, led by stone mason and SSW technician Lewis Morrison. Participants learn to assess various stone types, and explore carving fundamentals—drawing designs, making relief cuts, incising, and shaping both flat and sculptural work. The course is fully residential, offering shared accommodation in a workshop bothy and informal evening meals. Tools, materials, safety kit, and training are provided, and no prior experience is required—a thoughtful entry into the weight and craft of stone.
