Chapelton is a cottage for six on the Glenkindie Estate in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, in a quiet rural spot with the hills rolling away beyond the windows.

The kitchen and dining area are open plan, with a yellow and pink kitchen on a floor of bold patterned tiles. The living room has a big green sofa beside the wood-burning stove and a vintage-style record player, and floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors look out to the hills, with a private deck to step out on.

It sleeps six in three bedrooms with two bathrooms: two king-size rooms upstairs, and a flexible room downstairs with two singles that zip together into a super-king. The cottage stands near a working farm, so you may see farm vehicles about, and in snowy winter months the way in may need a 4x4 or all-wheel-drive car. There are no dogs at Chapelton.

Surrounded by fabulous views, with scenic walks straight from your door, you really can just stop and leave the world behind.

Where it is

Chapelton is on the Glenkindie Estate at Glenkindie, near Alford in Aberdeenshire (postcode AB33 8TD), a working estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park.

The owners’ guide puts the nearest shop about a mile and a half away, with the Central Garage and Shop at Glenkindie and the Spar at Bellabeg both open seven days, and a pub and restaurant about five miles off. For supermarkets there is a Co-op in Alford (14 miles), one in Aboyne (19) and an Asda and a Tesco in Huntly (21). The owners say the location is remote, so you will need your own car.
