Glenkindie Estate
Five restored cottages on a working Donside estate on the edge of the Cairngorms, for four to six, each done in its own bold colours.
Old stone cottages and a farmhouse on a working estate in Strathdon, looked after for its farming and its woodland.
The Glenkindie Estate sits in Strathdon, on the very edge of the Cairngorms National Park, a working estate that mixes farmland with protected woodland. Glenkindie House, described as a snug chateau of towers from different centuries, is still the owner's home, and the rest of the estate is yours to explore. The cottages have each been renovated with real flair, all bold wallpaper, painted panelling and patterned tiles, from Chapelton's yellow kitchen to the farmhouse at Greenstyle looking out to Kildrummy Castle. Deer, red squirrels, foxes and otters live here, you can ask about salmon and trout fishing on the estate's own stretch of the Don, and Royal Deeside is close by. You'll need a car, and three of the five cottages take dogs.
Surrounded by fabulous views, with scenic walks straight from your door, you really can just stop and leave the world behind.
Three for six, one for five and one for four; three of them take dogs.
