Introduction
Woodend sleeps four across a master bedroom with a king bed and en suite shower room, and a twin room with two beds, with a family bathroom for anyone using the twin. It's an odd building to start with, a converted hydropower substation, and that history still shows in the double-height flue running up from the wood burning stove and the skylights that flood the open-plan living space with light. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher and washer/dryer, and there's WiFi and a Freeview TV throughout.
French doors lead out to a secluded patio and enclosed garden, useful for morning coffee or an evening outside once the day's cooled off. Outside there's also off-road parking, secure bike storage with e-bike charging, an EV point, a fishing rod store and a central bike wash. Dogs are welcome. It sits close to the forest, the trout loch and the Victorian Ballroom, so you're right in among the estate's main features rather than out on the edge of things.

Location
Woodend sits within the Glen Tanar Estate on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, a few miles from Aboyne in Royal Deeside. The estate covers 25,000 acres, including its own National Nature Reserve and a stretch of Caledonian pine forest down towards the River Dee. Ballater and Balmoral are both within easy reach further along Deeside, and Aberdeen is about an hour by road.
Good to know
The cottage was originally a hydropower substation, so the layout and the flue above the wood burner are a bit different to the estate's more traditional cottages, worth knowing if you're picturing a standard build. WiFi covers the whole cottage. As with the other cottages, check-in and check-out times are set by the estate office, so confirm these when booking. It sits close to the Victorian Ballroom and trout loch, both worth a look if you're wandering the grounds.
What's nearby
The Victorian Ballroom and the estate's trout loch are both a short walk away. Aboyne has day-to-day shops, a Co-op, bakery, pubs and a golf course, a few miles from the cottage. Ballater offers independent shops and places to eat, plus the old royal station. Walking and cycling trails run straight from the estate through Caledonian pinewood and along the Water of Tanar, and Mount Keen gives hillwalkers a Munro within reach. The Deeside Way passes close by too.
