Deeside Gliding Club

Silent flight over Royal Deeside in a two-seat glider, from the club that set the UK height record.

Welcome

Deeside Gliding Club flies from Aboyne airfield at Dinnet, and a trial flight with them is one of the most memorable ways to see Royal Deeside: from above, in silence, with the Cairngorms laid out to the west.

The flight is in a two-seat glider with a fully trained instructor. Every launch is by aerotow, with a small aircraft pulling the glider into the sky and then letting it go. After that it is up to the air. On the right day a glider can soar like a bird, climbing thousands of feet, staying up for hours and travelling hundreds of miles. The UK height record was set from this club.

There is time to see how the glider works, to take photographs, or simply to look. The trial flight fee includes a month's membership, so a second flight, or the first real lesson, costs only the normal flying fees. When the weather will not allow flying, a simulator is used for teaching.
