Fitched Strawberry Basket Course with Anna Liebmann

On the 4th and 5th of October 2025, Anna Liebmann hosts a two-day workshop in her Edinburgh studio where participants craft a traditional strawberry basket. This is not a beginner’s class—students should already be comfortable with basic willow weaving, able to work independently on stake-and-strand techniques. The course brings together functional design and heritage skills: learners build a round under-foot base, weave pull-down waling and use bye-stakes before moving on to fitching—openwork decoration—and finishing with a five-rod border and wrapped handle. The result is a versatile basket, equally at home gathering berries, carrying bottles or holding garden produce.
