On the promenade at Portobello, at the foot of Figgate Lane, a little hut of weathered timber hung with a lifebuoy and chalkboards serves shrimp and burgers through a hatch.

Shrimpwreck is a seafood shack, good after a walk on the sands.

The star is the shrimp: crisp shrimp in soft buns with sauces and salad, and boxes of shrimp and fries, but there are smashed burgers too for anyone who prefers meat. Everything is cooked fresh as you wait.

There are tables on the prom under red umbrellas, or you can sit on the sea wall with your box and look out over the Forth. It opens from Wednesday to Sunday, from noon until seven.
