Introduction
A Royal Mile fixture, this legendary 19thcentury pub with its ornately carved ceiling is named after Deacon William Brodie, born in 1741 and said to be one of the characters that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. By day, Brodie was a respected carpenter, by night he turned to crime and burglary to pay off his drinking and gambling debts.
