Since opening in 1977 on Cockburn Street, Stills has been the central hub for photography in Edinburgh. There are free photography exhibitions all year round. Commissioned artists have included Eleonora Quadri and Ewan McClure. It also houses equipment that photographers can use to create their work, including darkrooms and computers with advanced editing software. The centre is also committed to teaching the art of photography through its classes and workshop sessions. There are talks and lectures on all aspects of the craft.
