North of Aberdeen, Pitmedden Garden is a beautifully designed and meticulously kept re-created 17th century walled garden. Having won numerous tourism awards, it’s little wonder it’s such a glorious place to visit. The original Great Garden was designed and laid out in 1675 by Sir Alexander Seton, but it wasn’t until nearly 300 years later in the 1950s that the National Trust for Scotland decided to re-create the garden, based on plans of the gardens at Edinburgh’s Holyrood Palace from the 17th century. Pitmedden Garden boasts over 200 fruit trees, six miles of clipped box hedging, over 30,000 annual bedding plants, a herb garden, topiary, fountains and sundials to explore.
