Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Old Town
King’s College
Introduction
The main campus and focal point of the University of Aberdeen, King’s College was once an independent university in its own right. Originally established in 1495, King’s College merged with Marischal College in 1860 to form what is known today as the University of Aberdeen. The College’s oldest and most recognisable building, King’s College Chapel, was constructed in 1500, while the Cromwell Tower followed in the 1650s-1660s. Elphinstone Hall was added to the site in 1930 and other buildings have since expanded the university, such as the Sir Duncan Rice Library which was completed in 2011.
