Grub is a small Aberdeen chain of sandwich cafes, and this one, on the corner of Spital on the way up to Old Aberdeen, is a handy stop for anyone walking out to see the cathedral and King's College.

It is a green-painted corner shop with big windows, leather sofas and wooden tables, and the food is simple, fresh and filling. Paninis, wraps and salads are made fresh while you wait, with a long list of fillings to choose from. There is good coffee, yoghurt pots and granola, and a counter of cakes and traybakes.

Spital is the old road that climbs from the city centre up to the university, and Grub makes a good start or end to a walk through the cobbled streets of Old Aberdeen, past the Powis Gates and King's College to the cathedral. Dogs are welcome, and there is plenty of room to linger. Grub opens every day from breakfast time until half past five.
