The Coffee Apothecary Udny
The first café and the roastery of the Coffee Apothecary, in a granite building in the village of Udny, pouring its own house-roasted coffee since 2014.
In the small village of Udny, west of Ellon, a long granite building with big lit windows is where the Coffee Apothecary began in 2014.
It is the first of its two cafés, and home to the roastery where its coffee is made.
The beans are speciality grade, and they are roasted here in house with great precision, using biomass and solar power, so the coffee in the cup has hardly travelled at all. The team would talk about coffee all day if you let them, and they run master classes for anyone who wants to brew better at home.
The food is as carefully made: hearty dishes from seasonal local produce, everything made in house, with home-baked cakes and treats. Beans are for sale to take away. It opens every day, and Pitmedden Garden and Tolquhon Castle are both a few minutes' drive away.

Open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm, and Friday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm.
