The Kailyard is reached down a woodland path that comes out into the light on the south side of the farm wood at Guardswell Farm.

It is a modern take on a shepherd's hut, a tiny house on wheels with a double bed under blankets, a small wood-burning stove, a little kitchen with a gas hob and a sink, and south-facing double doors that open onto the view.

Outside are a deck with a Big Green Egg, a firepit, and a Goodland hot tub heated by a wood stove, with the farm's Hebridean sheep grazing round the hut and the donkeys looking over the fence.

Good to know: it is off-grid, with solar lights and no other electricity; the hut has its own loo just behind it, and the showers are in the Steading, about 50 metres back up the woodland path, which has steps; there is no fridge, so a cool box with ice blocks is provided.

Two, in a double.
Arriving
Mondays and Wednesdays for two nights, Fridays for three, from 4pm to 8pm. Later by arrangement.
Dogs
Welcome, on a lead at all times, as this is a working farm, and off the furniture. Ask first to bring more than one.
No Wi-Fi
There is no Wi-Fi or television anywhere on the farm, though much of it has 4G.
Included
Beds made up in linen, cosy blankets and a bath towel each. High chairs and travel cots to borrow (bring cot linen).
Breakfast
A Guardswell breakfast basket can be added when you book: sourdough, their granola, eggs from the hens, coffee, juice and yoghurt.

On the farm

Beyond the houses, the farm has its shared places, open to everyone staying.

A few weekends a year are kept for weddings in the Steading, and its rooms can be hired for parties, team days and photo shoots.
