Fairygreen Cottage was built in 1872 for the Dunsinnan estate’s stockman, and it stands among farmland at Collace in Perthshire, with views of the Sidlaw hills.

It has been restored and remodelled inside for four, on a single storey: two spacious bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and an en suite bathroom and the other made up as a king or a twin as you ask, with Egyptian cotton linen, and a separate shower room. The sitting room has a wood-burning stove, the kitchen is fully equipped, with a dishwasher and a Nespresso machine, and there is parking for four cars.

Outside there is a patio and a garden, with your own Big Green Egg barbecue for eating outdoors. Children of all ages are welcome, with a travel cot and highchair at no extra cost, but pets are not, because of the ground-nesting birds and livestock nearby. Walk out from the estate and you can climb Dunsinane Hill, the one in Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Perth is around 20 minutes away by car, and Edinburgh Airport about an hour.
