A word for bread.
Aran is the Gaelic word for bread or a loaf.

Flora Shedden's bakery on Atholl Street in Dunkeld, named from the Gaelic for bread, with sourdough loaves, pastries, cakes and lunches.

ARAN was opened by Flora Shedden, the youngest semi-finalist on the Great British Bake Off in 2015, and its name is the Gaelic word for bread.
Inside, the shelves are stacked with dark-crusted sourdough loaves, and the counter is crowded with pastries, cinnamon buns, tarts and cakes, with coffee from the machine and the bakers at work in the open kitchen behind. At lunchtime there are sandwiches and savoury bakes to take away down to the river or the cathedral lawns.
The bakery opens at half past nine, or ten on Sundays, and the best of the bread and buns goes early.
Arrives at 5am every day.

Loaves and pastries sell out, so earlier is better.

The words ‘artisan bakery’ are generally enough to get any right-thinking stomach rumbling, and Dunkeld’s ARAN doesn’t disappoint. Putting a creative twist on classic items (think spelt and sesame sourdough, buttered leek and brie toasties, and even bacon sandwiches with rhubarb ketchup), it also does a mean line in cakes, tarts and brownies.
