The Taybank

A bar, restaurant and hotel on the Tay by Telford's bridge in Dunkeld, once Dougie MacLean's, famous for its live music and its big garden by the river.

On the bank of the Tay in Dunkeld, looking across to the seven arches of Thomas Telford's bridge of 1809, stands the Taybank.

It was built as a bank, became a temperance hotel, and then, under the Scottish songwriter Dougie MacLean, turned into one of the best loved music pubs in the country, where musicians passing through would gather in the bar downstairs.

Music is still at its heart. Every Wednesday the Boat Road Sessions fill the bar, and on Thursdays there is a Scottish trad session, walk-in only, alongside touring bands, folk, blues and DJs. Since 2019 the old car park has become a great garden running down to the river, with its own kitchen, and there is a restaurant upstairs and bedrooms above.

It was named the best hotel in Scotland by The Times in 2021.
