Queen's Bridge
A concrete road bridge of 1960 across the Tay at the foot of South Street in Perth, with long views up the river to St Matthew's spire and the Perth Bridge.
At the foot of South Street, one of the old main streets of Perth, the Queen's Bridge carries the road across the Tay to Bridgend and Rodney Gardens.
It is a long, low bridge of pale concrete, opened in 1960 in place of an older steel bridge, and plaques at its Tay Street end tell the story of its building and opening.
The bridge is best for its views. Upstream, the broad river curves past the tall spire of St Matthew's Church and the riverside terraces of Tay Street to the stone arches of the Perth Bridge; downstream, it runs on towards Moncreiffe Island and the railway viaduct, with Kinnoull Hill rising to the east.
Pavements run along both sides, and the walk across makes an easy loop with the riverside paths on either bank, lovely in the evening when the lights of the city shine on the water.
