Rodney Gardens

A small landscaped park on the east bank of the Tay in Perth, with heather beds, a stream and an old burial ground beside it.

Welcome

Across the Tay from the centre of Perth, on the Bridgend side of the river, Rodney Gardens is a small landscaped park running along the riverside at the foot of Kinnoull Hill.

Paths wind between rockeries and beds of heather in every shade of purple, pink and gold, a little stream runs down among the plants, and willows trail over the lawns.

Carved sandstone pieces stand in the grass, a circle of formal flower beds surrounds a tall column, and through the trees there are views of the spires of Perth across the river. Just beside the gardens is an old burial ground, its weathered stones among the trees.

It is a quiet place for a picnic or a pause on the way up Kinnoull Hill, and the gardens are open at any time.

The Daily for 4 November, from Scotland with love. A pink sandstone castle bristling with conical turrets and a Union Jack flag rises above a gravel forecourt, autumn-tinged ivy climbing one wing beside cannon displayed on the lawn.
