Behind a glossy red shopfront on the High Street in Perth, with Effie's painted in gold across its fascia, is a tea room of the old school.

Inside, the walls are hung with old pictures, the tables are laid with lace and flowery china, and the silver teapots come to the table with cups and saucers.
Tea is the point here. Coffee is served too, and well, but the menu lists more than thirty teas. Breakfasts start the day, lunches of soup, sandwiches and hot plates follow, and in the afternoon the tiered stands of sandwiches, scones and cakes come out for afternoon tea.
Effie's opens from Monday to Saturday, from half past nine until five, and afternoon tea is best booked ahead.
