A family-run cafe in an old beetling mill at College Mill Trout Farm by Almondbank, beside the River Almond, with soups, sandwiches and cakes and dogs welcome.

Beside the River Almond at Almondbank, at a working trout farm, a long whitewashed mill with a slate roof carries a sign with two painted fish: the Tickled Trout Cafe.

The building was a beetling mill, where linen was once pounded to give it a sheen, and inside it is one long, airy room under old beams and iron pillars.
There are scrubbed tables and mismatched chairs, leather sofas by the stove, an old penny-farthing on the wall and a lade running below a glass floor near the door. The family who run it serve soups, sandwiches, home baking and good coffee, and dogs are welcomed with a bowl of water.
It makes a natural stop for walkers and cyclists on the riverside paths along the Almond. The cafe opens from Wednesday to Sunday, from ten until four.
