Mains of Errol Fruit Shack
The farm-gate shop of a strawberry farm at Errol in the Carse of Gowrie, with pick-your-own from June in its polytunnels and punnets picked fresh from the field.
There's nothing quite like a punnet of Scottish strawberries straight from the farm, and Mains of Errol Fruit Shack is the place for them in the Carse of Gowrie, the flat farmland along the Tay between Perth and Dundee.
The shack is the farm shop of Mains of Errol, a strawberry farm just outside the village of Errol. All the fruit is grown in polytunnels on raised tables, which keeps the berries clean and puts them at an easy height for picking. From June you can pick your own, or buy punnets picked fresh from the field, and on a warm day there's strawberry ice cream too. The hours follow the fruit, so they change through the year: in October the shack opens on Saturday and Sunday from eleven until three, and on Monday from eleven until four. Check its Facebook page for the day's picking before you set off, and bring a cool bag for the drive home.
