On Saturday the 4th of October 2025, Carrbridge Village Hall hosts the World Porridge Making Championship, known as the Golden Spurtle. Around 30 finalists—selected by ballot from Scotland and abroad—compete in traditional porridge (oats, water, salt) alongside a speciality dish round where creativity is encouraged. Judging is blind and includes both taste and texture. The day begins with a pipe band procession to the hall, and free tastings are offered to visitors. The judging panel features figures such as The Hebridean Baker, Neil Mugg and Sarah Rankin. The event is organised by local volunteers and supported by Hamlyns of Scotland.
