Welcome

Spey Bank Studio fills the old Bank of Scotland branch on The Square in Grantown-on-Spey, renovated into a gallery, a workshop, an artist's studio and a pottery.

It is run by the craftsman Angus Grant and his partner Jane Candlish, and it was made to be a place where the creative arts can thrive in the Cairngorms National Park.

The gallery shows work mostly by Scottish artists and especially those from the park: painters, photographers, sculptors and makers, with a new exhibition each summer. Angus is the resident artist, and his own work takes its lead from the Cairngorms landscape, from bright prints of Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilein and Ryvoan Bothy to mugs from the pottery, glazed in deep blues and greens. There are classes for every ability, from drawing to handbuilding, embossing and glazing, and the shop is full of cards, prints and gifts, including its best-selling red squirrel prints. The studio is open all year.

Hidden Scotland

From our guide to Cairngorms

Grantown's old Bank of Scotland on The Square has a new life as a gallery, pottery, workshop and studio. It is run by the craftsman Angus Grant and his partner Jane Candlish, and its walls show work mostly by Scottish artists, especially those from the national park, with a new exhibition each summer. Angus's own prints and pots take their colours from the Cairngorms, from Loch Morlich to Loch an Eilein. There are classes for every ability, and a shop of cards, prints and gifts, where the red squirrel prints are the bestsellers.
