KJ's Bothy Bakery is a bakery and coffee shop tucked away on an industrial estate on the edge of Grantown-on-Spey, and it calls itself the town's best-kept foodie secret.

You drive past the dump and a storage yard and wonder whether you are in the wrong place, then find a busy bakery kitchen where everything is made on site, a small shop packed with award-winning bakes, and good Kiwi-style coffee.

It is the new life of the Mountain Café, which Kj ran in Aviemore from 2004 until the pandemic closed its doors in March 2020. Rather than reopen, she moved to her home town of Grantown, fourteen miles away, and started again, working with local suppliers. The racks fill with sourdough, sandwiches stacked high, cookies and cinnamon buns, and the bakes travel too: there is baking by post across the UK, a bread club and a monthly slice subscription.

KJ's opens Wednesday to Saturday from 8am to 3pm and is closed Sunday to Tuesday.

It is on the Achnagonalin industrial estate on the edge of Grantown-on-Spey. Bakes can also be ordered by post.

KJ's Bothy Bakery is a busy kitchen and small shop where everything is baked on site, with good Kiwi-style coffee to go with it. KJ ran the Mountain Café in Aviemore from 2004 until 2020, then started again in her home town.
