The Dell Grocer, Nethy Bridge

A little grocer in the forest at the Dell of Abernethy, a mile from Nethy Bridge, with sourdough on Fridays.

Welcome

The Dell of Abernethy is a cluster of houses among old trees at the edge of Abernethy Forest, a mile up Dell Road from Nethy Bridge.

It was once the home of the head forester of the Seafield Estate, who planted the beech, oak, lime and horse chestnut that stand round it now.

Tucked in among them is The Dell Grocer, a small shop for the people staying at the Dell and for the village. It stocks easy oven meals, wine, a few treats and the things you always forget. There’s fresh sourdough most Fridays, and an espresso machine. A shelf called Take Me Home holds jewellery, candles and soap by local makers.

It’s open Monday to Saturday, and it works in its own way: you call for somebody on the walkie-talkie and they come over to serve you. If you’re staying in a cottage nearby, you can order ahead and have it stocked for your arrival.
