Route 7 is a café in an unlikely spot, upstairs in the Highland Home Centre on the Dalfaber Industrial Estate at the edge of Aviemore, and finding it the first time takes a little faith in the directions.

Up there is a relaxed, family-friendly café with a full kitchen doing breakfasts, lunches and burgers, traditional hearty food side by side with lighter dishes, and a good showing for vegans; the menu keeps changing.

The takeaway opens at 8am and the café at 9am, and the kitchen closes at twenty past three every day, so it is a place for breakfast and lunch rather than dinner. Dogs are welcome in the café and at the takeaway, with water bowls, bags and a treat, a welcome led by the owners' own French bulldogs, Blu and Bruce. Route 7 has won awards as a café and for its vegetarian food, together with its sister, the Flying Sausage BBQ Hut.
