The Best Places to Shop in Glasgow

Glasgow is a wonderful city for shopping, and the best of it is in the independents off the main streets. From printmakers and kiltmakers to secondhand bookshops, these are the shops worth finding.

Curated and written by Hidden Scotland

Updated 22 September 2026. Across Glasgow.

Glasgow is a wonderful city for shopping, and the good part is nowhere near the high street. It's in the west end lanes and the Merchant City, where the printmakers, kiltmakers, secondhand booksellers and vintage dealers are, and where you can lose a whole afternoon without noticing.

We've gathered our favourite independent shops across the city, from a studio that prints its own wallpaper to a bookshop stacked floor to ceiling. Every one of them is worth finding.
