Welcome

MacGregor & MacDuff are master kiltmakers, and their West End kilt shop has stood on Dumbarton Road for twenty years, behind a slate-blue front with the name in gold and a window dressed for the season.

Visited and photographed by Simon Hird

Inside, a sign on the wall reads master kiltmakers since 1979, and the room is set out like a well-kept dressing room, with kilts, jackets and sporrans on stands and a wall that tells the story of tartan and the sporran.

It is the place to buy or hire highland dress, from a first kilt to a full wedding party. You are professionally measured and styled, and you can choose from more than four thousand tartans, from clan tartans to bespoke family tartans designed for a wedding and handed down as heirlooms. Alongside the kilts there are jackets, sporrans from semi-dress to clan crest, brogues and all the accessories. Kilts can also be hired from MacGregor & MacDuff in Edinburgh and Prestwick. The Dumbarton Road shop opens Monday and Thursday to Sunday, from ten, and is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Booking an appointment is advised.
