Young's Interesting Books is a small secondhand bookshop on Skirving Street in Shawlands, behind a bright red sign with its name in gold, and window boxes of flowers in summer.

It deals in quality rather than quantity: not only good pre-loved books from recent years, but a fine selection of older and antique books that a collector will want to linger over.

The shelves run to the ceiling and the tables are stacked, and the stock is wonderfully varied: old Penguin and Everyman editions, vintage Tolkien paperbacks, music biographies and pop annuals from the sixties and seventies, poetry, history and art, with rare finds tucked among the ordinary. It is a pleasant walk from the cafés and shops of Kilmarnock Road and Pollokshaws Road. Young's opens Monday to Friday from eleven until half past five, Saturday from ten, and Sunday from noon until five.
