Aye-Aye Books is an independent bookshop of art and ideas, for many years found in a corner of the Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street, and now on Allison Street in Govanhill on the south side.

What it stocks follows from its roots in an arts centre: art and theory, writing by artists and thinkers, poetry and the small-press end of publishing, along with zines, journals and records that would never reach a chain.

The shelves are packed floor to ceiling, and the tables are laid out with books faced outwards, so it is a shop to walk into without a title in mind and leave with something unexpected. Recent stock runs from a book on the form of the book edited by Sara De Bondt and Fraser Muggeridge to the poetics of the Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, a feminist reader on sound, and W. G. Sebald's The Rings of Saturn. Aye-Aye Books opens from Wednesday to Saturday, from noon until six in the evening, and is closed from Sunday to Tuesday.
