Welcome

Bill's Tool Store is a Glasgow hardware institution on Bain Street in the East End, a few steps from the Barras market, and it has been going for more than seventy years.

Its red shopfront, with the name in big letters across the top, is hard to miss, and inside the shelves and bins run from floor to ceiling.

It stocks power tools and hand tools, fixings, workwear and safety kit. Rows of bins hold screws, bolts and fittings, and the walls are hung with saws, hammers and hand planes, including fine woodworking planes by Von Berger and tenon saws by Pax, alongside workwear from Regatta, Portwest and Apache in high-visibility yellow and orange. There is plenty to look at even for anyone who has only come to browse on a Barras weekend. It sells online too, with gift vouchers. Bill's opens on weekdays from seven in the morning until half past five, and from half past nine at the weekend.

Hidden Scotland, the magazine

Scotland, in print.

We want to show you the best that Scotland has to offer. The makers and the creatives, the enduring experiences, the evocative tales, the concealed corners. The roads less travelled that take you to places that matter. The adventures that gather you up and sweep you away. The blend of the wild and the artistic that makes Scotland what it is. We’d love for you to join us.
