Smokey Trotters started out as a street food favourite at markets and events around Glasgow, and it now has a home of its own on London Road in the East End, a short walk from the Barras and Glasgow Green.

Its sign is a skull in a chef's toque over crossed knives, and inside the walls are painted floor to ceiling in bright murals, over yellow chairs and wooden tables.

The cooking is unashamed comfort food, and burgers are the heart of it: smashed patties stacked double with melted cheese in glossy buns, with loaded fries heaped with toppings and grilled cheese alongside. Portions are generous, served on enamel plates with a beer or a soft drink, and it is the sort of place where a table orders a bit of everything and shares. It suits a lunch before the Barras market at the weekend or a night out in the East End. Smokey Trotters Kitchen is open every day from eleven in the morning until nine at night.
