Welcome

Glasgow is a great music city, and Monorail Music is the record shop its music lovers head for.

It opened in December 2002 in King's Court, just off King Street in the Merchant City, after a three-year search for the right place, and it shares its home with Mono, the café bar and music venue next door. The racks are full of new releases and reissues on vinyl and cassette, with music from every corner of the world, plus films, books and the shop's own exclusive editions. It has always been close to the city's own bands and labels, from Teenage Fanclub, Belle and Sebastian and Mogwai to Chemikal Underground and Optimo, and it hosts listening parties and author talks through the year. The name comes from George Bennie's futuristic monorail, tested near Milngavie in 1930, and the shop sits under an old railway siding. It's open every day, from 11am to 7pm and from noon on Sundays, so you can browse and then stay on for lunch.
