Places to Stay on a Scottish Estate

There's something special about staying on a Scottish estate, with the grounds to roam and a river or a loch at the end of the drive. From gate lodges and gardener's cottages to the big house itself, these are our favourite places to stay on an estate.

A Scottish estate is a world of its own. Walled gardens, woodland, a private stretch of river, a loch with a boat on it, and miles of tracks where you're more likely to meet a deer than another person. Staying on one means having all of that on the doorstep, whether you've taken the big house for a gathering or a cottage that was once the gamekeeper's.

We've gathered our favourite places to stay on Scottish estates, from gate lodges and converted steadings to farmhouses with the fields running right up to the door. Every one of them sits within an estate, with the land to walk.
