The Braemar Gathering takes place on Saturday the 6th of September in the upper Dee valley. The programme includes heavy events such as stone putting and caber tossing alongside massed pipe bands, highland dances and hill running. Set in a stunning locatation, the field lies beneath steep slopes below the Cairngorms. A country market and marquee host local food producers and crafts. Spectators gather around the field to watch ceremonial marches and the salute to the Chieftain. The event draws competitors and visitors from across Scotland and further afield and after the days events they can be found in the local pubs.
