The public bar of the Fife Arms in Braemar, the village's meeting place, with Scottish dishes, local ales, whiskies and live music, open every day.

The Fife Arms in Braemar is a grand Victorian hotel remade as a place where Highland tradition and contemporary art meet, and the Flying Stag is its public bar and the heart of the village.

It is where locals and visitors end up side by side.

The room is hung with old pictures and antlers, with wooden tables and chairs, and over the bar a stag looks down from a crown of antlers. The kitchen serves hearty Scottish dishes made with food from local farmers, gamekeepers and suppliers, and the bar pours local ales, whiskies and well-made cocktails. There is regular live music.

It opens every day from noon, and in the evening it is wise to book. Braemar Castle and the Cairngorms are on the doorstep.
