The Babyfaced Baker
A takeaway bakery on Leith Walk, open since 2021, with a weekly changing counter of buns, pastries and cookies, much of it vegan, made in its open kitchen.
Follow the smell of fresh baking along Leith Walk and you'll find the Babyfaced Baker, a little takeaway bakery that opened its doors here in September 2021.
This is where everything is made, by hand, in an open-plan kitchen, so you can watch the bakers at work while you wait for your coffee. The counter changes every week and much of it is vegan: think pistachio croissants, banoffee danishes, cardamom buns and sea salt dark chocolate cookies. The week's menu goes up on its Instagram and Facebook, so you can see what's coming before you go, and if you want the full choice, come down first thing. There's nowhere to sit, so take your paper bag of bakes with you and enjoy them on the way. A second shop in Portobello sells the same bakes, carried fresh from the Leith kitchen every day. It opens from Thursday to Sunday, from breakfast until four.

Takeaway only, Thursday to Sunday.
